Loren Ami’s pottery continues to be inspired by traditional Hopi designs and forms. Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays (red) and bee-weed (black) and outdoor fired.  This jar has one of the most unusual designs we have seen on his work.  It is a Whipper Katsina mask which is painted on each of the four sections. The painting is stunning with very sharp lines and a great use of color. Each of the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. The jar has been traditionally fired which creates the beautiful coloration of the clay on the jar.  Stunning!
