Les Namingha is one of those potters who continues to defy expectations in his innovative clay art.  This jar is entitled “Layers LXIV.”  The shape of the jar has a high shoulder and short neck. The jar is painted with acrylic in layers.  Les said that it took him over a month to paint this jar!  The bottom layers have swirling lines that represent the Hopi migration pattern.  The next layer is a checkerboard pattern.  Finally there are overlapping Sikyatki inspired birds.  The birds are all in various colors and and the body of each consists of various traditional Hopi-Tewa designs.  There is an exceptional complexity to this jar in the painting, making it a bold and creative piece of art in clay.  The jar is signed, “Les Namingha”.  Once again Les creates such thoughtful work and challenges the viewer to find a deeper meaning in each piece!
