Abeita, Karen – Bowl with Bird Design
Karen Abeita is known for her traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery. This bowl is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip and then traditionally fired. The piece has a round shape and a tiny rim. When looking down from the top, the bowl has a large bird as the design. The bird has polished red and tan areas. The bowl was traditionally fired to create the blushes. It is signed on the bottom in bee-weed, “Karen Abeita”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
