Aguino, Martina & Diego – Carved Jar with Bears and Corn Stalks (1960’s)

Martina Aguino began making pottery in the late 1930s period.  By the late 1960s to 1970s she continued to make pottery with her son, Diego Aguino. She would make the vessel and he would create the designs.  This jar is carved with bears and corn stalks. They are carved into the clay and then incised with additional designs and clay slips would be added for coloration.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  The jar is signed, “Diego and Martina Aguino”.
