Aguino, Martina & Diego – Incised Tan Jar (1960’s)

7"w x 6.5"h

$ 700.00

Martina Aguino began making pottery in the late 1930s period.  By the late 1960s through the 1970s she continued to make pottery with her son, Diego Aguino. She would make the vessel and he would create the designs.  This jar is exceptional in design and coloration.  The jar is fully polished tan on the top and bottom. The incised designs are inspired by the ancient Potsuwi’i pottery of the San Juan area along with the earlier revival styles of the 1930s.  The star, rain and mountain patterns extend around the body of the jar.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  The jar is signed, “Diego and Martina Aguino”.  This piece was originally acquired from Dick Howard and still has his original number on the bottom.
