4"w x 2.5"h

$ 175.00

Dorothy Ami is known for her traditional style of Hopi-Tewa pottery.  She is related to Mark Tahbo, and he taught her to make pottery.  This jar has a round shoulder and sloping sides.  It is painted with bee-weed (black) and three different colors of clay.  The jar has bird around the top of the design, with cloud, rain, and butterfly designs around the sides. Note the use of deep red, brown, and mauve clay slips for coloration.  The jar was traditionally fired to create various blushes on the surface.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, ‘Dorothy Ami” and a pipe for Tobacco Clan.
