Ami, Loren – Bowl with Bee Design (1990s)

4.25"w x 2.75"h

$ 625.00

The pottery of Loren Ami was inspired by traditional Hopi designs and forms. Each piece was coil-built, painted with native clays (red) and bee-weed (black), and outdoor fired.  This bowl is thin-walled and tightly painted. There are four stylized “bees” encircling the bowl with their wings extended. The wings are polished red and the remainder is painted black.  The blushes on the surface are from the outdoor firing.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Loren Ami”.  There is a spider as his hallmark, as he is Spider Clan.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
