Ami, Loren – Water Jar with Eagle Tails and Seed Designs (1990s)

6"w x 4.5"h

$ 775.00

The pottery of Loren Ami was inspired by traditional Hopi designs and forms. Each piece was coil-built, painted with native clays (red) and bee-weed (black), and outdoor fired.  Loren learned to make pottery from Dextra Quotskuyva. This jar is one of his classic shapes with a wide shoulder and elongated neck. The inside of the neck is slipped and polished a deep red.  The jar is painted with an eagle tail design separated by a seed pattern.  The black is painted from bee-weed and the red is stone polished.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Loren Ami”.  There is a spider as his hallmark, as he is Spider Clan.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
