Nettie Ami was born Nettie Tala Yumka Poocha in Polacca, Hopi. She was married to Glenn Ami (Ahmi). She was the mother of Leroy, Pearl, Alexander, Bettie, and Lolita Ami. She was making pottery by 1930 and continued through the 1980s. This wedding vase is one of her pieces from the 1970s.  The wedding vase is slipped with white clay and painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  The design is a bird pattern on both sides.  The wedding vase is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There are some areas of fugitive black where it was not painted on heavily enough before firing.  The wedding vase was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Nettie Ami”.
