Calvin Analla learned to make pottery from his sister, Yvonne Lucas, and her husband, Steve Lucas. This bowl is one of his most famous forms. The bowl is made by mixing two different types of clay together. That creates the mottled appearance of the clay. It is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed for the black. The rim of the bowl is carved away to create a rounded or “cloud” rim. There are rainclouds painted on the edge of each of the rounded sections. Note the thin lines and tiny raindrops! The bowl was traditionally fired. It is signed, “C. Analla, Jr.”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
