This jar is one of the more complex design patterns for Frederica Antonio. Each piece is coil built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares.  This jar is eight different designs painted onto the surface on the body of the jar.  They are each varied and complex!  The neck of the jar has a mountain design in red, white and orange colorations.   Interestingly, after she has painted the clay slips onto the jar, she has to go back and paint over them a second time so that the black stands out over the colors!  The base of the jar is concave, reminiscent of historic Acoma jars which were carried on the head.  This combination of thin walls, classic shape, and tightly painted design create a piece which is visually stunning!  The jar is signed on the bottom.
