Antonio, Frederica – Infinity Bowl with Five Color Cloud Designs

7"w x 5.25"h

$ 2,800.00

This one of the most difficult styles of painted designs created by Frederica Antonio. Each piece is coil built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares.  This bowl has interlocking clouds that encompass the surface.  What makes it so difficult and time-consuming is that she has to make all the squares first, then go back and add the color and THEN paint over them again with the black bee-weed!  The clouds are contrasted with three different colors of clay along with white and black.  The result of this time-consuming process is a fully designed and visually striking jar. There is even a slight texture to the surface of the jar with all the layers of clay applied!  The rim of the bowl curves inward, creating the “infinity rim”.  The top is painted with a swirling cloud design with two different colors of clay.  It is a challenge to create this inward-facing rim and Frederica said she even had to create new yucca brushes to paint in such an unusual direction.  The base of the jar is concave, reminiscent of historic Acoma jars which were carried on the head.  This combination of thin walls, classic shape, and tightly painted design creates a piece that is visually stunning!  The jar is signed on the bottom, “F. V. Antonio”.
