Antonio, Frederica – Jar with Four Seasons Designs and Corn Pattern Rim

5"w x 4"h

$ 1,800.00

Frederica Antonio is renowned for her intricately painted pottery. Each piece is coil built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares.  This tall jar has a high shoulder and a short neck.  The neck of the jar is a checkerboard corn pattern in black and red.  The body of the jar has lightning patterns that are patined in two different colors of clay and extend from the neck to near the base.  Note the TINY checkerboard pattern between each of the colored lighting bands.  Separating the lighting are her “four seasons” designs.  There are corn, rain, lighting, and winter clouds.  It is tightly painted to match the size of the jar.  The base of the jar is concave, reminiscent of historic Acoma jars that were carried on the head.  This combination of thin walls, classic shape, and tightly painted design creates a piece that is visually stunning!  The jar is signed on the bottom, “F. V. Antonio”.
