Antonio, Frederica – Jar with Interlocking Clouds and Infinity Rim
Spectacular! This jar is a dynamic coloration and design from Frederica Antonio. Each piece is coil built and then finely painted. Her designs are a series of fine vertical and horizontal lines which are then filled in to create larger images in the squares. This jar has interlocking clouds as the pattern. Interestingly, she had to make all the squares first, then go back and add the color and THEN paint over them again with the black bee-weed! The clouds are contrasted with red and tan clay slips. The result of this time-consuming process is a fully designed and visually striking jar. Added to one of her most complex designs is her famous “infinity rim”. The rim of the jar curves inward and it is painted with a mountain and cloud pattern in black-and-white. The variations in shape, color, and design on the jar are exceptional. The jar is signed on the bottom.
