Alvin Baca is known for his classic melon ribbed jars. This jar has a taller shape and a turned in rim.  It is fully carved with 16 ribs encircling the piece. They are just slightly rounded out and separated my a matte band for visual contrast.  Even the base of the jar is polished!  The shape is more classic for Santa Clara pottery and works nicely for Alvin’s style of carving and polish.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Alvin Baca”.
