Baca, Jane & Starr Tafoya – Swirl Melon Bowl (1980s)

3.5"w x 2.5"h

$ 165.00

Jane Baca (1919-2011) and her daughter Starr Tafoya (b. 1951) worked together on pottery for decades. Jane was a sister of Legoaria Tafoya and Pablita Velarde.  Jane and Starr were known primarily for their figurative pottery.  This small swirl melon bowl has eight ribs. It is fully polished and fired to a metallic surface.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jane and Starr”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There are some bubbles on the surface of the slip which are probably the result of the high firing.
