Begay, Daniel – Bowl with Buffalo, Feathers, and Clouds

8"w x 5.5"h

$ 1,800.00

This is a wide bowl by Daniel Begay.  The piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. This piece has a buffalo on each side.  One is fully polished, and the other is a combination of matte and polished surfaces.  Separating them are feathers on one side and complex cloud designs on the opposite side.  Note how the feathers are both matte and polished.  The interlocking clouds are equally complex in design.  Daniel is exceptional with his use of both matte and polished surfaces.  The matte is smooth and perfectly sanded to create the best visual contrast.  This certainly adds to the sophistication of his carving and designs. Note how Daniel’s designs combine thin and thicker lines to enhance the imagery.  The style of carving has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Daniel Begay”.
