Blue Corn – Large 11″ Wide Polychrome Star and Checkerboard Designs (1970s)

11"w x 7"h

It is not often that we see such an extraordinary polychrome bowl by Blue Corn.  The piece is wide and it is fully polished tan.  It is painted with green, taupe, and black colored clay slips. The piece is fully designed and each of the sections is different, which is very unusual.  There are stars, rain, cloud, and checkerboard patterns.  They have delicately painted lines and bursts of color on the polished surface.  The flow of coloration is simply spectacular. The bottom of the bowl has bands of mica slip along with black and green bands.  Between the large 11″ wide size and the unique designs, this bowl is definitely distinctive among Blue Corn’s pottery.  t is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Blue Corn, San Ildefonso”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair with just a few small areas of fugitive black.
