Blue Corn – Polychrome Jar with 32 Feathers and Rain Designs (1970s)

5.25"w x 4.5"h

$ 1,200.00

This is a classic polychrome jar by Blue Corn.  She is certainly one of the most creative potters of her time with a varied use of clays and firing techniques to create her distinctive pottery. This piece has a sharp shoulder and a slightly turned-out rim. The neck has rain and cloud designs painted in green and ochre on the cream polished background.  The body of the jar has 32 feathers painted with black lay and the ends are highlighted with an ochre clay. Below the shoulder is a band of rain designs highlighted with green.  It is always fascinating to see how Blue Corn used the various colors to accentuate the tightly painted designs.  This jar is a true polychrome with more than three different colorations.  The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed in the clay, “Blue Corn”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
