Blue Corn – Polychrome Jar with Carved Mountain Design (1980s)

4"w x 3.5"h

$ 650.00

This is a carved polychrome bowl by Blue Corn.  Blue Corn began by making black-on-black pottery but it is her polychrome pottery for which she is the most famous.  This jar is carved, polished with a white clay slip, and then painted. The design is a mountain pattern around the neck of the jar.  It is slipped with a reddish-brown clay and then has black on the edge of the carving. The polished white of the jar has areas where the base clay shows through but it is not a rub, but just where the white clay was not put on thick enough and you can still see the overall shine.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Blue Corn”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
