Blue Corn (1921 - 1999)
Blue Corn is certainly one of the most creative potters of her time with a varied used of clays and firing techniques to create her distinctive pottery. This is one of her larger vessels and it is highly polished and intricately painted. Around the shoulder of the jar is a feather pattern. There are 16 feathers. More unusual is the design around the neck of the jar with an interlocking star design. The jar was fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Blue Corn”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. There is one small rub on the shoulder which can be seen in the photos. It was originally purchased from Blue Corn and the last photo is of the Blue Corn with the jar and the original owner. Definitely great provenance as well as a stunning jar!
