Autumn Borts-Medlock is known for her often fancifully carved pottery. This jar is wonderfully complex in shape and design. The jar has three carved and polished birds carved into different levels of the clay.  They are each polished red.  They are surrounded by “clouds” that are carved into the clay and slipped with white micaceous clay.  The flow and dimension of the carved areas is striking. The background where the clay has been carved away is slipped with a light gray clay with mica, which almost has a bluish appearance of the sky!  Amazingly complex for the size.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Autumn Borts”.
