Cain, Mary – Small Bowl with Carved Avanyu (1970s)

3"w x 2.5"h

$ 300.00

Mary Cain was a daughter of Christina Naranjo and a granddaughter of SaraFina Tafoya.  She was known for her classic style carved and polished Santa Clara pottery.  This bowl is from the 1980s.  It is carved with her classic water serpent which encircles the piece.  As the bowl is turned there are rain, mountain, and lightning designs.  Note how she used the negative space of the rim to extend downward to create the design!  The bowl is fully polished and fired a deep black. It is signed on the bottom, “Mary Cain”.    It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a classic of her pottery style!
