Calabaza, Jospeh “Tha-Mo-Thay” – Jar with Feather Pattern (1980s)

4.75"w x 3.5"h

$ 450.00

Joseph “Tha-Mo-Thay” Calabaza is a son of noted potter Blue Corn.  This jar is coil built, stone polished and painted with black and green clay slips. The jar has a feather pattern painted around the neck and shoulder and a band of green clay below the shoulder.  The jar has a very classic feel, much like the work of Blue Corn.  This bowl has an interesting provenance as I originally purchased it from Joseph in the 1980s with my parents and then sold it to a client when I opened the gallery in 1996.  The jar has now come back to the gallery.  It is in very good condition and no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Than-Mo-Thay”.
