Candelaria, Daryl – Tall Pottery “Shard” Jar (1990s)

5"w x 7.5"h

$ 875.00

Daryl Candelaria is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo.  He studied both historic and contemporary pottery at the School of American Research in Santa Fe, NM.  This tall jar is fully designed with his classic “Shard” sections.  Each shard is either painted, polished, or carved in a representative manner by the various Pueblos.  Few potters have the technical ability to create so many diverse surfaces, let alone on one vessel!  There are corrugated, polished black melon ribs, Acoma parrots, micaceous, Zia, Tesquque, and other pottery styles.  His work is always just a bit amazing!  The rim and base are slipped with micaceous clay. It is signed, “Daryl Candelaria” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  What a perfect way to portray the history and techniques of Pueblo pottery in one vessel!
