Candelario, Hubert – Seedpot with Sixty-Eight Holes (2004)

6"w x 6.5"h

$ 3,000.00

Hubert Candelario is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo.  This is one of his famous “holey pots”.   The bowl has 68 holes cut into the clay before the piece is fired.  The holes all vary in size and add to both the complexity and intricacy of the piece.  It is always interesting with such an open lattice style or clay work that his pieces always feel so structurally sound.  The piece is slipped 3 to 6 times with micaceous clay before they are fired.  That is what gives them such a deep coloration and even tonality.  This piece is from 2004 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Hubert Candelario”
