Myrtle Cata was born at San Felipe Pueblo and when she married moved to Ohkay Owingeh. She learned to make pottery from noted Santa Clara potter Tina Garcia. Myrtle has been making pottery since 1985 and works primarily in micaceous clay. This jar has melon ribs and an elongated neck. There is an organic sense about the shape. The jar is fully polished tan and traditionally fired. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Myrtle Cata” on the bottom.
