Cata, Rosita – Small Bowl with Incised Potsuwi’i Designs (1960’s)

4.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 225.00

Rosita Cata is known for her traditional incised pottery. This small bowl is polished red on the rim and base. The bowl is incised with mountain and rain designs.  The style is derived from the Potsuwi‘i Incised Ware (1450-1500).  In the 1930’s a group of San Juan Pueblo potters created a revival based on this style.  The recessed area of the incised designs is also slipped with mica.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Rosita Cata”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
