Denise Chavarria (b. 1959) is a daughter of noted potter Stella Chavarria and a granddaughter of Teresita Naranjo.  Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  This jar is carved with 11 feathers around the neck and one carved prayer feather over the head of the avanyu.  Around the shoulder is a classic avanyu (water serpent) design.  The remainder of the jar has cloud, lightning, and water designs.  The jar is highly polished and fired a deep black.  It is signed on the bottom, “Denise Chavarria”.
