Chavarria, Pablita – Deeply Carved Jar with Lightning Designs (1963)

5.5"w x 5.5"h

$ 500.00

Pablita Chavarria was the matriarch of a family of exceptional potters including Clara Shije, Reycita Naranjo, Elizabeth Naranjo, Florence Browning, and Mary Singer.  This is one of her the most deeply carved pieces we have had of her pottery.  The jar has a round shoulder and a short neck.  It is very deeply carved with a mesa and lightning pattern.  The piece is very highly polished and fired to a glassy black.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Pablita” and dated 1963.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  The last photo is one of Pablita Chavarria with her neighbor, Faustina Gutierrez.
