Chavarria, Stella – Jar with Deep Carved Mountain and Rain Designs
Stella Chavarria is a daughter of noted potter Teresita Naranjo and a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo. This is a deeply carved piece of her pottery. It has a flowing design of mountains, clouds, and lightning. They swirl across the surface of the piece. It is fired to a glossy black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Stella Chavarria”. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. While Stella makes very little pottery today her work continues to reflect Santa Clara pottery traditions.
