Chavarria, Stella – Jar with Deep Carved Rain and Lightning Desigsn
Stella Chavarria is a daughter of noted potter Teresita Naranjo and a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo. This is an exceptional smaller piece of her pottery. The jar is very deeply carved. It has a flowing design of clouds, rain, and lightning. They swirl across the surface of the piece. The rim is slightly turned in and fully polished. It is fired to a glossy black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Stella Chavarria”. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. While Stella makes very little pottery today her work continues to reflect Santa Clara pottery traditions.
