Cheromiah-Victorino, Mary – Laguna Water Jar with Plant and Rain Designs

8"w x 6.5"h

$ 350.00

Mary Cheromiah-Victorino (b. 1955) is a daughter of noted potter Evelyn Cheromiah (1928-2013) and a granddaughter of Mariano Cheromiah.  She is a sister of Lee Ann Cheromiah. Mary is known for continuing her mother’s revival of traditional Laguna pottery.  This jar is coil-built from traditional clay and painted with bee-weed (black).  The jar has plant, cloud, and rain designs. The rain is represented by the thin lines.  The jar is fully designed and tightly painted.  While traditional in design, the complex imagery has a modernist appearance.  The jar is signed, “MW Cheromiah Victorino”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
