Chino, Alicia Kelsey – Large Jar with Stars, Heartline Deer & Corrugated Rim
Alicia Kelsey Chino (b. 1979) s a daughter of noted potter Darla Davis and a granddaughter of Rachel JWhite. She learned to make pottery from her mother. She is known for her traditional style designs. This jar is coil built. The rim is corrugated in small half-circles. The jar is fully painted with interlocking stars. However, within each star, she has created a rectangle and painted a heartline deer. It is a creative combination of several styles of Acoma pottery. Visually, the combination of the fine-lines and deer flow across the surface. The piece is signed on the bottom, “A. Chino”.
