Chino, Marie Z. – Seedpot with Swirling Butterfly Design (1970s)

6"w x 5.75"h

$ 1,200.00

This is a classically designed seedpot by Marie Z. Chino.  The piece is from the 1970s and it is a tightly painted piece that incorporates the “op-art” style of design in Acoma pottery.  The piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (a plant) and a red clay slip and it was traditionally fired.  The design is a very tightly painted series of butterflies that are interlocking and swirling around the surface.  They are separated by rain design.  It is one of the few times we have seen this design on Marie’s pottery, as it is more closely associated with the work of her daughter, Grace Chino. The complex pattern has a very dynamic appearance to the eye.  It is in excllent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Marie Z. Chino”.
