Chino, Marie Z. – Small Jar with Fine-Line Shooting Stars (1960s)

3.25"w x 3.5"h

$ 275.00

This is a small jar by Marie Z. Chino.  Marie is famous as one of the revivalists at Acoma Pueblo, along with Lucy M. Lewis, Jessie Garcia, and a few others.  This jar is thin-walled and tightly painted.  There are six-point “shooting stars”.  Note how each star has one arm further extended to the right?  They are meant to represent shooting stars encircling the jar.  The top area of the jar is very tightly painted.  It was originally purchased in the late 1960s.  The black-and-white designs give the jar a graphic and modernist appearance.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are some very slight color variations to the white.  It is signed, “M. Z.  Chino”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
