Chino, Marie Z. – Small Jar with Interlocking Clouds (1960s)
This is a small jar by Marie Z. Chino. Marie is famous as one of the revivalists at Acoma Pueblo, along with Lucy M. Lewis, Jessie Garcia, and a few others. This jar is thin-walled and tightly painted. The jar has interlocking clouds as the design. Each cloud has thin lines painted as part of the design. It was originally purchased in the late 1960s. The black-and-white designs give the jar a very graphic and modernist appearance. The jar was traditionally fired so there are some very slight color variations to the white. It is signed, “M. Z. Chino”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
