Chino, Rose – Large Jar with Rain Clouds sand Rain Designs (1970s)

This is an iconic large water jar by Rose Chino Garcia. She was a daughter of noted potter Marie Z. Chino. This piece is a classic Acoma water jar shape. The jar is coil built and painted with bee-weed (black).  The design is has four medallions with small clouds, rain, and lighting designs.  Separating them are additional lighting and thin line rain designs.  It is a creative use of classic fine-line imagery!   This large jar is very thin-walled and it was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom, “Rose Chino”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
