Clashin, Debbie – “Hopi Prayers” Jar (2019)

6.5"w x 4"h

$ 600.00

This is an intricately painted jar by Debbie Clashin.  She is a cousin of noted potter Mark Tahbo and a descendant of Grace Chapella.  Debbie has quickly become well known for her large-sized traditional Hopi-Tewa pottery. The jar has a rounded shoulder and a slightly turned-out rim.  She titled the jar, “Hopi Prayers”.  She says of the piece, “There is a bird wing design using the four directions.  The red band symbolizes the sun we need to help corn grow and the mottled area is the rain.”.  The jar is painted with bee-weed and a dark red clay slip.  It was traditionally fired with blushes to the surface. It is signed on the bottom “Debbie Clashin” and a pipe for his “Tobacco Clan”.  It is from 2019 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
