Clashin, Debbie – Wide Seedpot with Eagle Tails and Bird Wing Designs

7.75"w x 2.75"h

$ 900.00

This is a large wide and very flat seedpot by Debbie Clashin.  She is a cousin of noted potter Mark Tahbo and a descendant of Grace Chapella.  Debbie has quickly become well known for her large-sized traditional Hopi-Tewa pottery. This piece is coil-built and has a flat top, in the style of the classic Sikyatki pottery of the 1400s. The piece is painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips.  The top of the shoulder is painted with two sections of intricately designed eagle tail patterns.  Separating them are larger bird wing patterns accented with a deep red clay coloration and mottled areas.  Below the shoulder are mountain designs highlighted with both red and orange clay slips. The jar was traditionally fired with exceptional fire clouds across the surface.   It is signed on the bottom “Debbie Clashin” and a pipe for her “Tobacco Clan”.  There is certainly a wonderful depth of coloration on this jar, matched by its complex painted designs.
