This jar by Alice Cling has a narrow base and a high shoulder.  The shoulder slopes up to the square mouth.  The entire jar is highly polished red. It is then outdoor fired and the stunning variation in the color are from the smoke and fire.   The colors on this piece are extraordinary!  The piece was covered in pine-pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when pitch was used to make the pottery water proof. Alice has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “Legacy of Generations.”
