Cling, Alice – Jar with Long Square Neck

5"w x 6.5"h

$ 200.00

This jar by Alice Cling has a very round body and an elongated square neck.  Alice Cling is one of the great names in the revival of Navajo pottery in the 1980s. This jar is coil built, stone polished and traditionally fired.  As with much of her work, it is both about the shape but also the coloration of the fire clouds which give it such a distinctive appearance.  This jar has some striking coloration that swirls around the jar from black to deep red.   The jar was covered in pine-pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when pinon pitch was used to make the pottery waterproof.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Alice Cling”.  Alice has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “Legacy of Generations.”
