Concho, Anthony – Eight Panel Melon Jar with Katsina Designs

5.25"w x 4"h

$ 500.00

Anthony Concho (b. 1966) is the son of Laura Vallo and the brother of Ergil (Dalawepi) Vallo.  He learned to make pottery from his brother and continues in a similar them after his passing.  This bowl is coil built, carved into eight sections and stone polished.  It is etched with a series of four different katsina figures, each repeated twice.  Many of them, such as the Zuni Fire God, are Zuni in origin, not Hopi.  The background area is a “rainbow” of colors, for which he was known.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “AC”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
