Curran, Ursula – Black Water Jar with Avanyu & Feathers

1.5"w x 1.25"h

$ 250.00

Ursula Curran is a daughter of noted potter Dolores Curran and Alvin Curran.  She is named after her grandmother, noted potter Ursulita Naranjo.  Ursula is known for her intricately painted miniature pottery.  This jar is fully polished and intricately painted.  Ursula has to paint each piece up to five times to get the color of the matte painted areas deep and consistent enough!  The jar has a round shoulder and an elongated neck.  The neck has a feather design.  There is just a small dip in the jar at the end of the neck before the shoulder.  Around the shoulder is a water serpent (avanyu) and extending downward are rainclouds. It is very intricately painted for the size!  Not only does it take multiple layers of clay to paint the designs, but all the design work must be done before firing. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ursula Curran”.
