Tina Diaz is a daughter of Mary Cain and a sister of noted potters Joy, Linda and Billy Cain.  She makes very few pieces of pottery each year and this is one of the few carved black pieces.  The jar is very thin walled and fully carved.  The design is a series of melon ribs or “rain” coming off the rim.  The reaminder of the jar is fully carved with cloud, wind and lightning patterns.  Note how her designs are very fluid from top to bottom and each flowing into the next!  As well, the background area which is matte is “rounded”, which adds another dimension to her pottery!  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay.
