Tina Diaz has skillfully created her own unique style of carving pottery.  She is a daughter of Mary Cain. This jar is a larger piece of her pottery and in the shape of a classic water jar with a round shoulder and turned-out rim.  The top of the rim of the jar is polished tan.  The jar is deeply carved with cloud and rain designs.  The jar is highly stone polished red.  The polished red surfaces are in contrast to the recessed areas around the carving that are slipped with the traditional cream-colored clay slip.  Today, few potters use the clay in the background as it is difficult to apply.  Overall, the jar is striking in form, design, depth of carving, and coloration.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Tina Diaz”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
