Folwell, Kaa – Graffiti Avanyu Large Open Bowl

12.5"w x 7"h

$ 1,800.00

Kaa Folwell is one of the exciting young potters working today.  She is a daughter of Polly Rose Folwell and a granddaughter of Jody Folwell. This large open bowl is fully designed. The inside of the bowl has a painted water serpent (avanyu) encircling the piece.  It is painted in a graffiti style or Kaa’s modernized interpretation.  The shape of the avanyu follows the carved rim of the bowl.  The inside of the bowl is slipped with brown clay. The exterior is painted black and white.  The piece has a creative shape and modernist design.  The coloration pulls from historic pottery as well as giving it a modernist appearance.  It is signed on the bottom.  It is a beautiful balance of color, form, and design.  We are excited to see more from this young potter!  I had a museum mount made for the bowl so that it will sit at an angle and show off the interior water serpent design.
