Polly Rose Folwell is a daughter of Jody Folwell and a sister of Susan Folwell.  She is known for use of classic designs on her traditional-inspired Santa Clara pottery. This jar is coil-built and thin-walled.  It is fully polished and high shoulder and asymmetric rim.  The jar is was outdoor fired and the coloration on the surface comes from cow manure placed against the jar at the end of the firing. The jar has wave and water designs encircling the piece.  Note the matte area is where the polished surface has been lightly etched away.  This is a very controlled process so as not to etch too deeply into the clay. The colorations on the surface are striking.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Polly Rose”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
