Folwell, Susan – “Casino Corn Maiden” Plate

$ 1,000.00

Susan Folwell is one of the exciting innovators in Pueblo pottery.  This plate is part of her ongoing “Corn Maiden” series. This piece is entitled, “Casino Corn Maiden”.  The front has the Corn Maiden with corn as part of her tablita.  She is surrounded by playing cards on the edge. The rim is fully carved in the shape of kernels of corn encircling the central design.  The back has painted coins.  Susan says the Corn Maiden is a symbolic figure in Pueblo culture representing prosperity.  Here she questions if the “Casino Corn Maiden” is giving her blessing or warning to the winnings of the casino.  The piece is signed on the back.
