Folwell, Susan – “Couse Colors” Two Piece Clay Set (Couse)

Paint Tube: 7" long Paintbrush: 10" long

$ 800.00

Susan Folwell continues in her “Taos Light” series, with, “Field Day”.  This series is inspired by a painting by EI Couse, “Planting Prayer Plumes”.  Susan said of this series:

“I wanted to imagine what Couse woud have taken with him out to the filed for a day of painting.  I started with the palette and paitned one of his nocturnal scenes.  For “Couse Colors”, it is a “tube” of paint with the bust of Couse’s “The Artist”.  I chose the color as “Taos Lilac” as there are lilacs all over Taos in the summer and just part of living here.  The paint brush is also made from clay.

The “tube” of paint is made form clay and the end is incised to look like a cap. Note how she has rounded the bottom as if it has been used!  The end of the paintbrush is also etched.   It is signed on the back.

It was in 2017 that Susan Folwell began a series of clay pieces inspired by and re-interpreting the Taos Society of Artists’ work from 1915-27. She has continued to create and evolve in this series over the years.
